Scott was a stereotypical photo nerd in high school in the late 1970s,
spending many hours in the darkroom producing grainy black & white photos
and hiding from the jocks.
Scott continued photography as a hobby through a string of varied career
choices as an aircraft mechanic, prison counselor, manufacturing engineer, and
real estate agent. Then he decided to turn his hobby into his occupation, and
has worked as a freelance and commercial photographer for five years.
Over the last year, he has embarked on a unique artistic project using a
very unusual lighting technique called painting with light, working
primarily with male nudes. These photos are selectively and unevenly lit by
intent, and have a very surrealistic or ethereal feel, unachievable with normal
lighting techniques. Because this lighting cannot be metered and is never
exactly the same, each photo is a mini-experiment, and completely unique.
Scott is originally from Canada. His family moved to the US and he spent
most of his childhood in the midwest. He has lived in Seattle since 1984.
